Carson (boy)

Carson is apparently a Scottish or Irish surname, but beyond that it's anyone's guess what it means. It first appeared as a surname in the 13th century, and has been used as a first name in the USA since at least the 1880s. It made a giant leap in popularity in the 1990s with the rise of the surnames-as-first name trend and continues to be popular in the 21st century. It is more common for boys, though it is used for girls as well. Its popularity was probably inspired in part by American television host Carson Daly (b. 1973).
